Tips

People sometimes ask about tipping.
Tips are important - the basic pay is very low and tips and incentive payments made by the bar should be far higher than the daily salary.

Firstly, the general rule is that if you give a tip directly to someone - then it is seen as personal to them - it is not put into the general 'Tip' and shared.

Money that has been left in the change tray goes into the general tip. It is then shared by the girls who have worked in the bar from 5pm to when the bar closes.
This means that girls who are late, have been bar-fined or who opt to go home at 3am (but before we close): will not share the tip.
This feels pretty fair - especially since we often don't close until after 5am.

Some special tips:
You may see customers sticking notes to the ceiling and the girls climbing the pole to get the money with their teeth. This money goes in the general tip - some can do it, some can't, so they share it.

When someone uses a room for a short-time, the girl who has been bar-fined will give a 50 baht tip to whoever goes up cleans and changes the sheets. Again - spreading the 'Good Luck' around.

How much should I tip? Obviously it's your choice - but (unless we have really pissed you off) leave something!
If I'm in a bar that has been boring and the only conversation was with a tranny: leave the coins. If the bar has been OK and I've had a few drinks: leave the coins and the 20's. Somewhere Anna and I go regularly and we have stayed an hour or more: probably 2-300 baht.

Lastly, there's 'grope tipping'. I hate to see a guy all over a girl and not giving her anything. At least a few drinks - and if you've really had fun then at least 1-200 baht. You might have had fun - but give her something for the trouble!

Peter, good stuff. Last year was my 6th trip and only then learned that if you want the gal to have the tip you must give it to her and not put it on the tray. I like to give to someone that has smiled with me or been kind. Dated Tan and bought her boots in January. Hello to her. Fun seeing the gang on your photo shoots. Might want to let the visitors know about the Tequilla Reef and Brau Haus. Two super places to eat and each 1 minute from Annajet. Also, can the european music at 9 pm.. If you stuck to rock n roll my friends and i would have spent even more time there than we did. Love your bar. Anna, she's a beauty. See you next January. john from Canada. big, shaven head and big mustache.Remember?

Hi John - yes, I remember you guys!
Your comments have raised two ideas for more blog articles: our "Music Policies" and "Eating".

So keep an eye out for these!

Hi Peter... Good ideas for more blog articles.
Maybe you can put them into true stories that happened at Anna Jet !?
You have given your blog a name: "Anna Jet Tales".
So, some readers may expect stories/tales.
Well, that´s just an idea... It´s up to you.
It´s always great to read about Anna Jet.

hi. i agree with your thoughts on tipping, i used to work within the hotel industry and big tips can make your day, i think these days though people see tipping as automatic and decide not to tip anyone regardless of the service, service in pattaya is a bit diferent than in england - you are always greeted with a smile and welcome - cold towels to freshen you up - normal chit chat and a few games of connect four - small things like that warrant a tip anyway - like yourself i usually leave coins and 20 baht notes which should be nothing to a westerner anyway - if i have been drinkinh at the one bar all night then i may leave 150-200 baht on top of the barfine and drinks bill, ihave drank at annas many times and always had a great night there, coming again on 2nd october so i will pop in for a few

see you all soon

Hi Peter Reply to an on post, but just can't let it go without comment. Having just returned home from Thailand (Bangkok 3 weeks Isswan 2weeks Pattaya 4 days) and Cambodia 8 weeks. I couldn't help but notice how quite it was in Thailand. High season? I've seen bars busier in May-August period than December this year. Why? Tip coins and 20s. So 80 baht. Stay a while tip 200! Hey 5 years ago drinks were cheap ladies were cheap. Now the drinks in you bar are dearer than at home in Australia. I should also tip Twice a daily issan wage if I stay a while. For what? People who come to Pattaya aren't the richies of western society but' the bars and girls now expect that we should make them rich in 6 months. Come on guys save your town and business before it's too late. I for one won't be spending the usual 6-8 weeks in the place i loved so much. Maybe 1 week on the way to PPehn and Snooky. Cheaper drinks gourgeos young under 25 ladies $5-10 short time $15 -20 long time. Good luck. Former Pattaya lover.
